The YAMAHA XJ OWNERS Picture Page

1st Bike Picture

Greetings from this side of the pond. I've included a jpeg view of my '86 xj700x. It's pretty much stock except for a K&N filter and Progressive rear shocks. The picture was taken before I had to replace the shocks. I may put spacers or progressive springs in the tubes. A Yamaha dealer told me that the air I keep in the fork tubes shortens the seal life.

The thing will move pretty quickly (as do most of the XJ's) once you get it above 6000 rpm. I've run it up to about 100 mph and it still had plenty of rpms left - but I ran out of guts, and the rev limiter between my ears kicked in :-)

I get about 50 mpg (U.S) on a leisurely ride at 60-65 mph or so. If I do a lot of city driving or flog this baby a bit too hard, mileage can drop to 33-38 mpg. I'd say average is somewhere around 42-45mpg, again depending on how I ride.
